Chiba temple

Chiba-dera Temple is the oldest temple in the city, and is said to have been founded in 709 by Emperor Genmei. Excavations were conducted five times between 1930 and 1931, and it was discovered that a 4-room by 4-room tile-roofed Kondo existed at the end of the Nara period. It was also estimated that the former temple area was 70 ken (126 m) square. The excavated items include many valuable items such as eave tiles, sutra cylinders, goshi, and Japanese mirrors.
In addition, the precincts are dotted with cultural assets such as the Kosun tree, which is a prefecturally designated natural monument, and the Shinto Monument, which commemorates the excavation of the Tango Weir.
